Welcome to the Charge Portal

Charge is Motionhouse’s latest touring production, inspired by the role of electricity in the human body.

In an exciting fusion of art and science, Motionhouse has worked with science partner Professor Frances Ashcroft and her team from the University of Oxford to create a spectacular multi-media performance taking audiences on a journey from the electrical charge that sparks human life, through the beating of our hearts and the memories we make, to our use of electricity as an everyday commodity. Six performers use dance and circus to delve deep into the human body, tracing the incredible story of energy in our lives.

The Charge Portal takes you ‘behind the scenes’ to the creation of Charge, where you can access exclusive interviews with Kevin Finnan, Artistic Director of Motionhouse and the choreographer of Charge; key members of the creative team, and the dancers as well as the scientists who helped Kevin bring Charge to life.

An extensive range of teaching resources has been developed around Charge to assist teachers wishing to study the work in both primary and secondary settings. These include contextual information about Motionhouse and the creation of Charge; a detailed scene-by-scene analysis of the production and a wide range of questions, tasks and lesson plans designed to stimulate learning, increase engagement and encourage students to explore their own responses to the work.
